On March 20, 2019, the City of Norcross announced an intention to form a nine-member Complete Count Committee (CCC) to help achieve a “complete count” for the Norcross area in the United States 2020 Census. The census is conducted nationwide every 10 years, the results helping to determine local governments’ eligibility for federal and state grants. Historically, low-income neighborhoods and those with large non-English speaking populations have tended to be under-counted, resulting in those areas receiving less aid for housing, transportation and other public spending than they would have been entitled to otherwise.
Norcross City Council wants to make sure every city resident is counted in the 2020 census next year. The nine-member committee will consist of community members selected by Mayor and Council who will help achieve an accurate count by raising awareness of the 2020 U.S. Census and working with local leaders to make sure the survey is carried out accurately.
